Ari Fleischer Releases Notes From Air Force One to Justify 9/11

George Bush, September 11 2001

There are six pages in all, the only original verbatim text of what US President George Bush said on the presidential plane as he and his senior aides absorbed the news on September 11, 2001.

"I can't wait to find out who did it," Bush said. "It's going to take a while ...."
[He was trying to hold true to a facade here because a little while later when asking about his family, and his dog ...]
"Barney?" Bush said, inquiring about his beloved Scottish terrier.
"He's nipping at the heels of Osama bin Laden now," said Card

[Andrew Card didn't know about maintaining plausible denial]
They already knew who did it, they'd known for months about bin Laden's intentions.
"We're at war...somebody's going to pay" George Bush said after 9/11
Handwritten notes providing the only complete verbatim record of how George W Bush reacted as he received the news of the 9/11 attacks have been made public for the first time.
To mark the 15th anniversary of the attacks, Bush's former press secretary Ari Fleischer has released the six pages of notes that he made as Bush and those around him reacted to the unfolding terrorist atrocity.
They reveal that amid the confusion, Bush's immediate reaction was to seek revenge against the terrorists.
Telephoning his Vice President Dick Cheney from Air Force One, he said: Were going to get the b******s. Were at war.

After hanging up the phone, Bush turned to his aides and said: "When we find out who did this, they're not going to like me as president. Somebody's going to pay."

Handwritten notes from a Bush administration official released before the 15th anniversary of 9/11 give an inside look into how the President responded in the immediate aftermath of the terrorist attacks in New York, Washington and Pennsylvania.

The scribbled writings of Ari Fleischer, White House press secretary at the time, show worries about other attacks after George W. Bush was told about the hijackings while at a Florida school.
